A key competitive advantage of Thinfilm’s memory technology is that it is fully printable in high volume roll-to-roll  machines.  Thinfilm has three production partners: Soligie in the US, PolyIC in Germany and InkTec ltd in South Korea.

The currently printed memories consist of a total of five printed layers.

1. Bottom electrode
2. Memory film
3. Top electrode
4. Protective layer (Passivation)
5. Carbon contact pads

Below is a film showing the production process at InkTec’s second factory in South Korea. The bottom electrode is printed using direct gravure printing, the memory film is printed using micro gravure coating and the remaining layers are printed using rotary screen printing.
